In
1983, "Fun N Games" opened a small kiosk in Oglethorpe Mall
in
Savannah, Georgia. Our primary focus at that time was selling
games and stickers, but it didn’t take us long to realize that our
customers were looking for something different than typical toy
store fare. Being a small store allowed us to quickly change our
direction, as well as being able to react swiftly to hot trends, a
strategy we still use today.
After
4 successful years in Savannah, winning several awards with
our little kiosk, we decided to open a larger store. Since the
Jacksonville Landing was about to open, we decided to relocate to
Jacksonville, Florida. We opened "Fun N Games" at the Landing in
June 1987 still concentrating on supplying our customers with
those "must have" hard to find items.
During the next few
years, we won 2 national awards:
1989 – Playthings
Magazine’s Award of Merit – Store Design
1990 – Playthings
Magazine’s First Award – Store Promotion
These
awards helped convince us (and our landlords) that we needed more
space. In October 1994 we moved from a 578 square foot location to
our current 1513 square foot location in the Landing. It was at
that time that we changed our name to The Toy Factory. A conveyor
belt hanging from the ceiling runs throughout the store giving it
a "factory" feel. The kids seem to be amazed at these toys
floating all over the place, so the conveyor belt has become the
signature feature of our store.
So
here we are, after nearly 25 years, still providing "something unusual"
and the "coolest stuff", both educational and just plain fun for
kids of all ages. Please stop in and visit awhile. We look
forward to seeing you.
